Old Bob Says: Ferrets have very poor eyesight.

But is it significantly worse than other carnivores like dogs? None of whom have 20:20 vision themselves.

Old Bob Says: Ferrets have no pupils in their eyes.

Of course they do. It's a horizontal slit, like a sheep's pupil. But why can't you usually see it?

I adore their slitty little pupils wub.gif you can see em if they are in good light.
I always figured they aren't immediantly apparent because the iris is so dark.
And in Binos its cause they don't have any pigment.

Is it True that Albinos have poorer eye sight than other colours of ferrets.
Noticed with ferrets that if you offer them meat they smell it Snatch it from your fingers, so i make sure its a big dangly bit so my fingers do not get nipped.
Suppose down a rabbit Burrow smell and hearing are used more than eye sight and sudden movements and rabbit smells are pounced upon.
Makes me laugh when some people get bitten by ferrets and cannot understand their mentality or hunting instincts. biggrin.gif

Only just noticed that.

If you look here, it seems that even in humans, in the classic form of albinism (oculocutaneous albinism - white hair, pink/red eyes) vision is impaired.

The good news is that apparently, at least in humans, oculocutaneous albinism 'does not change one's expected lifespan'.

There does seem to be some health problems in people with partial (patchy/splodgy) albinism, i.e. the problems associated with Waardenberg syndrome or Chediak-Higashi syndrome or tuberous sclerosis, depending on which form of partial albinism they've got.

Seems to me that the simpler the question the more the diffiult the answer so often the anwer isn't a simple yeah or nay but 'that depends on' laugh.gif laugh.gif
